ABSTRACT:
For the last 8 years, I have worked to understand divergent processes of the last 20 million years in the Lake Mead region of southern Nevada. My students and I have measured stratigraphic sedimentary sections, made geological maps to understand faulting and analyzed samples geochemically to understand past environments. We are working to put the puzzle pieces back together and understand how continents get pulled apart when subjected to extensional forces. I will discuss this most recent work in the Basin and Range and highlight issues we are addressing.
EDUCATION:
Ph.D.: Stanford University, 1998
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
My interests revolve around examining a variety of rocks and structures to determine past tectonic settings and the geologic history of an area. I use a variety of methods to collect data and analyze past events. My Ph.D. research focused on convergent plate margins that existed in Mongolia 250-400 million years ago.
