Qualifications

Membership in the Geological Society of Minnesota is open to all people who have an interest in participating in or supporting a public-spirited organization devoted to increasing our understanding of Geology and the Earth Sciences.

Member Benefits

1. Advanced notice of professionally-presented seminars on the Earth Sciences given at the University of Minnesota.
2. Advanced notice of professionally-conducted laboratory sessions for special hands-on learning experiences.
3. Advance invitations to professionally-guided, statewide and national field trips.
4. A quarterly GSM Newsletter containing announcements of upcoming activities, interesting and informative articles on the Earth Sciences, GSM project and activity reports, and general club news and notices.
5. An extensive media lending library. The GSM Media Library is an ever-growing collection of 200+ geological DVDs and videos, and a number of interactive, multimedia CD-ROMs for both Windows and Macintosh computers. GSM members may join the Media Library for a one-time fee of $15. Participants may then borrow library items for the nominal charge of $1 each. Items are exchanged at seminars, labs, or by prior arrangement with the librarian. 
6. A free copy of Rocky Roots...Three Geology Walking Tours of Downtown St. Paul.
7. An annual GSM Directory that makes it easy to access your organization, and is a handy information resource.
8. The opportunity to meet others, of diverse backgrounds, who share an enthusiasm for learning and a curiosity about the natural world around them.
9. The rewarding feeling of supporting a public-spirited, nonprofit organization dedicated to public education and the appreciation of Planet Earth.

Annual Dues

The membership year begins October 1. For those newly joining after April 1 and before October 1, membership will be good through September 30 of the next year. (New members joining between April 1 and Oct 1 get those months free!)
